Hi All,
We have been having some trouble with the internet at our eaglecam site. It works but we lose the live stream (as many of you have made me very well aware-in various forms-over the past two weeks). We have scheduled a Friday morning visit by the internet technician which we have been told will remedy our issue. Many thanks for all you patience with this camera. Notably, the still images are functioning quite well so we can keep a close eye on things that way. Also, at times the live stream flows well.
All the best,
Patrick Keenan

Thank you very much for the information. It's much less frustrating when you let us know what's happening. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the Friday fix will work!

ReplyDeleteThank you - I feel much better now.
Thank you for the update. Now if only you could get the 15 second images to update every 15 seconds that would be great! They are only working correctly a third of the day, after that it can take up to 30 minutes to change. Has been like this over two weeks now - Maine Cam2
ReplyDeleteSomeone mentioned that the chicks have hatched but I'm unable to tell. Anyone else see, is it just one or both?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've been told, it seems one has hatched, (hurray!), the other shouldn't be far behind, hopefully tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteJam and eJane, eggs have not hatched Maine Cam2.
ReplyDeleteAs to whether a hatching has taken place, it is possible, just hard to tell. Taking into account when the eggs were believed to be laid, it is possible for them to hatch any time now, Patrick even mentioned as early as May 6th, so we are right there. One would need to see the nest during an exchange to be sure. Unfortunately, in addition to the choppy video stream, the cam also appears a bit foggy/blurry, adding to the difficulty of viewing the nest. Will keep everyone posted as more information becomes available, and I know soon we'll be watching 2 young Maine eaglets begin their new life! It's an exciting time!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed the eagles posture has changed, its wings are now spread out over the nest area.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that too, regarding her wings. They are spread out as if protecting the area surrounding the eggs. You gals may be right about the hatching taking place on EagleCam#2.
ReplyDeleteThe wing spread on May 5th was to protect the eggs from the nasty weather...pouring rain!
ReplyDeleteHow can you tell if there are chicks when the camera picture only plays for 2 seconds?!
ReplyDeleteTo the above post - we do our best with the 15 second updates although it is currently stuck for 14 minutes now.
ReplyDeleteTo the above posts - we'll have to depend on the biologists monitoring the nest for definitive updates regarding hatching/chicks.
ReplyDeleteInstant updates stuck for 32 minutes now - 7:24 am est.
ReplyDeleteBiologists and this blog aren't updated enough to rely on them. We hopefully can rely on ourselves with the images that we do see.
Wow how disappointing all this web cam stuff is....... can't even watch the finches today... Wait all year for the eagles and then for all this cam stuff.. makes you not want to bother.. hope things are taken care of on fri... otherwise I don't know if i will bother anymore..too depressing........ Trying to keep the faith!!!!
ReplyDeleteBRI, a wonderful organization that has provided the opportunity to be involved in the nesting of these many majestic birds. Are there problems, yes, BRI is trying to fix them, a free video service that some of the caring people watchintg mostly complain about, because its not perfect. Give them a chance to fix the issues and stop the harrassment. Stop the statements that you will not watch anymore. That is your choice. I have been watching and enjoying this free web page since it started and I am thankfull to BRI for bringing the opportunity to all of us.
ReplyDeleteWhat's happening with the Loon cam???

Please BRI can take the comments. If they looked at this blog more often, they would know that this cam hasn't operated right the entire month of April along with the 15 second updates. People have a right to post their thoughts...if they didn't, this blog wouldn't be here. Relax!! Don't take it so personal. Many donate to BRI and simply want to have a view of the eagles - a streaming view.
Nicely stated. I too am a donor, and I certainly appreciate the webcams provided but extremely disappointed at the lack of attention given to them, especially in light of the abundance of input by other dedicated viewers regarding status/condition of audio/video feeds. Why it has taken so long to correct is frustrating to all. Even the biologist's posts aren't as frequent as in past years. Maybe simpler is better, the original eaglecam still works, audio and video, day...night...good and bad weather.
ReplyDeletePatrick, on the 15 second images, bottom one, we see the beautiful sunsets but are missing the sunrises. Could you reset the time so we can view them both, sunrises and sunsets? At 5:33 am est, it is black and white. Thank you! Maine Cam2
ReplyDelete7:43 am est MaineCam2 - Instant updates stuck on 7:04 am est. Please, please look into this so we don't miss the hatch!
ReplyDelete8:12 am est MaineCam2 - Instant updates stuck on 7:04 am est
ReplyDeleteI too have been watching and wishing!
ReplyDeleteI just commented but time is slow at about 3 hrs. 8:23 at the moment eastern time.
ReplyDelete9:09 am est MaineCam2 - Instant updates stuck on 7:04 am est
ReplyDelete9:53 am est MaineCam2 - Instant updates stuck on 7:04 am est
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else noticed the time stamp for the blog comments is exactly 3 hrs earlier than the actual time?
ReplyDeleteSporadic live video from EagleCam2 shows at least one fish, maybe two have been dropped off in the nest since 7:04AM photo freeze. If I were guessing, I'd say we have hatchlings. She hasn't laid down all morning, perferring to hover over where the eggs were last seen.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, for what it's worth, on Eagle Cam 1's live feed, wild coastal storm at the moment, but yet I just saw an eagle swoop in, balance on the edge of the nest for a few seconds, head bobbing up and down into the nest. Eagle moved to other side of nest, same thing. Then flew off. Would an adult eagle go to the nest in such bad weather unless there was a compelling reason? I'm new to eagle watching. :)
12:22 PM est MaineCam2 - Instant updates stuck on 7:04 am est Is there noone in the office that can fix this problem? Especially since the live cam is not operating properly?
ReplyDeleteUpdating has resumed. :)

Sort of
There is a chick! 3:51 pm est Maine Cam2
ReplyDeleteWe have an eaglet!
ReplyDelete15:55 EDT
I can confirm, definitely a chick. One egg remains, and at present, there is also a fish for dinner in the nest.
ReplyDeletewhen will they fledge?
ReplyDelete5:13 am est - Live cam black...instant updates stuck at 4:38 am est.
ReplyDeleteLou, chick was seen at 3:51 pm est yesterday and by the end of the day, there were three fish in the nest. Great providers so far!
I hope this technician fix - fixes all images involved live cam and instant updates. We are missing so very much. Instant updates are taking 10 minutes plus to change and cam of course is still buffering badly. BRI please look at all the images as a fix
ReplyDelete7:30 am est - images stuck since 6:32 am est.
ReplyDeleteActually, BRI confirmed hatch at 3:55pm yesterday. It was later for the rest of us due to camera feed delay. Hope internet tech can fix problem so we can watch all the activity the same as the biologists.
ReplyDeletePlus, there were 5 fish in the nest early this morning...hope the eaglet is hungry!
Our 1st grade class has been watching the nest faithfully and were we excited to get an email from BRI telling us a chick had hatched yesterday afternoon. As we do every year, sort of a tradition here, we let the children come up with a name for the young eaglets. Well, we're happy to announce they have chosen "Buster" as the name for the first little eaglet. The second one they have already decided on "Mario". It's marvelous that our children can observe nature today as never before, and watching these eaglets grow into mature eagles just fascinates them. We are able to provide them with the EagleCam all day long and keep them informed with the biologist's blog.
ReplyDeleteGood eating Buster, enjoy the fish!!! Save some for Mario!!!

Hopefully still working on the cam after it cam back up at around noon. Buffering continues and so on.
ReplyDeleteStill only 5 seconds max of live feed before freezing.
ReplyDeleteVery, very poor image when we do see one.
ReplyDeleteI too only get 5 seconds of live feed and the still camera has been stuck for at least 10 minutes. Was everything supposedly fixed this morning?
ReplyDelete3:50 pm est whatever the fix was, it sure didn't work.
ReplyDelete6:03 am est - Live cam allows 2 seconds of viewing. Instant updates stuck! Takes over 10 minutes to change and only if you get out of your browser and back in again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for Nothing........
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know what cam Sr. Mary Clara is watching... She must be blessed...sounds like they are getting a good view... where?????
ReplyDelete15 second images useless along with the cam.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I suspect Sr Mary Clara has plenty of patience and abundant faith the issues will be fixed soon.In other words, she and her class are watching as viewing is available, just like many of us are doing.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, all the years in the IT sector have taught me it will be fixed when it's fixed...and no amount of holding-my-breath-til-I-turn-blue is going to change that. Nothing ever has a quick solution, and I'm positive Patrick and the others at BRI, and the tech(s) currently working on the problem(s), want everything to work correctly ASAP.
And I for one am grateful for any of the images I'm currently receiving. But then, that's just me. :)
Today ... EagleCam2 = black screen
ReplyDelete8:36 am est TWO CHICKS
ReplyDelete(originally thought to be seen at 5:15 but friend wanted to confirm)
Live cam will not come up 9:06 am est. Also instant updates - In two and half hours only updated eight times even when closing out browser and reopening. Posting to hopefully assist BRI with this problem.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the two chicks, BRI and Eagle Fans
Clear image of both chicks at 10am Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWe have a great view (still image) looking directly into an eagle's nest with hatchlings. Let's not complain about stream feeds.
At 3:08 pm est there was a feeding of both chicks...one 15 second update during the entire feeding...updated again at 3:21 pm est. The live feed, saw about 10 seconds of the feeding, 2 seconds live, reload, 2 seconds more etc. Sad, we are missing so much.
ReplyDeleteAnother feeding - all images frozen! If the cam can't work properly, why can't the 15 second updates????
ReplyDeleteBoth parents at the nest. Live cam down. 15 second updates took 4 minutes to update.
ReplyDelete24 minutes for instant updates to change. Live cam down
ReplyDeleteBRI I hope you read this blog. You have a major bandwidth problem. BRI needs to increase the bandwidth so your websites will work properly and more efficiently.
ReplyDeletei have never gotten the live stream to work
ReplyDeleteBRI In regards to above post about bandwidth, perhaps you should contact http://www.hancockwildlifechannel.org/index.php?topic=cam-sites
ReplyDeleteDue to all the cams they provide and the amount of viewers along with their forum, they had to increase their bandwidth. Maybe they can help you out with the problems that you are having.
Missing all the feedings!! Live cam - impossible to view. Image very poor also when we get a viewing. Instant updates not updating...currently stuck on 17 minutes and still no updates. 9:02 am est.
ReplyDeleteTo anonymous who says "let's not complain about stream feeds", there are many of us who have donated $ for the cams. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I would prefer fewer cams if the ones we have would work. I think BRI took on too much this year adding so many cams.
ReplyDeleteIt's been hit & miss on the live cam. I was lucky enough to see some short segments of her feeding her very active chicks. Will be glad when the tech problems are solved.
ReplyDeleteBRI might want to talk to IWS.org as they have 3 cams running on different eagle nests on Catalina with very little problem. I started watching those last year when we lost our chicks in Maine.
ReplyDeleteCommunication from Patrick re: the problems would temper much frustration.
ReplyDelete11:23 am est Another Missed Feeding By Both Parents - 10 minutes for instant update to change...Live cam buffered and then down.

ReplyDeleteCommunication from Patrick re: the problems would temper much frustration
Oh there is communication, first weather, then internet server down, then satellite will have problems due to weather, then modemn and now we don't know what it is. My guess is major bandwidth problem and a professional computer person / technician is needed at BRI.
Hancockwildlife.org has it all together. They know how to set up eagle cams. Almost 1000 viewers at a time with perfect sound and picture. Check em out.
ReplyDeleteMay 10, 8:34pm
How about simply moving connection used at eaglecam#1 site over to eaglecam#2 site...ta-da...problem solved.
ReplyDelete6:28 am Nest exchange and feeding missed due to 15 second updates stuck and live cam buffering every 4 seconds then reloading and replaying over and over.
ReplyDelete7:02 am est Maine Cam2 - Live cam black. Instant Updates stuck on 6:40 am est.
ReplyDeleteQuestion - since the live cam won't stream for more than 2 to 4 seconds at a time, why not take the live cam down and at least make sure the 15 second updates work until someone figures out what is wrong with the live cam stream? There are a ton of cams that are 15 second / refresh only cams and at least we would see something. Right now 15 seconds can be just that or minutes and then an hour update! Right now update is over 26 minutes viewing same image. Perhaps this would help with your bandwidth problem, BRI.
ReplyDelete44 minutes - 15 second update finally changes
ReplyDeleteGood suggestion by Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteWent on line to watch two baby eaglets at the BC...www.hancockwildlife.org
there are two eaglets several days old. nice clear streaming video, unlimited.
check out this site.
