Hi All,
I've been meaning to post about this weekends fantastic observations at our nest. At times both eagles were observed in the nest bowl together. In addition one was seen getting into the incubation posture. This "testing of the nest bowl" is a great sign that indicates the birds are thinking about nesting. In combination with several mating attempts I think that many of us are beginning to hold our breath in preparation for egg laying! Time will tell.
Have a great day and thanks for all your posts!
Best,

ReplyDeleteWow ... looks like serious incubation practice. Watched one eagle in the bowl and one on a branch above for about 5 minutes and then noticed the bowl still update showed both eagles in the nest. Then I lost the still pic.
In the meantime, the live feed has not changed and I realized the time on the main page for the two cams was different ... around 26 min. apart. Don't know what the problem might be but hope it is fixed in time for egg laying.
About egg laying ... it will be easier to determine with the added camera but I still cannot wait to find that an eagle was in the incubating position all night. That used to be our first clue.
Thanks, Patrick, for fixing the anonymous post choice.

Just checked in, both eagles at the nest, one inside and then moved. Trying to move a small branch into the nest. Beautiful sight against the blue sky! !

ReplyDeleteYes, Karen I am having the same problem, starts and stops frequently, wind maybe? Both eagles are at the nest, one in and one outside on a limb.

ReplyDeleteCame on a little while ago, eagle in nest, now on branch. Thanks Judy for letting me know I am not the only one having the stopping and start problem. Top still picture, great, noticed it hasn't moved in a long time. I think someone mention how the top and bottom are different in time by quite a bit. Just looked, they did.

I believe I saw a mating attempt this morning (3/13) at 07:49.

ReplyDeleteWho says Friday the 13th is an unlucky day. Just checked in, eagles were mating! ! ! Very, very exciting, after the mating, the both went into the nest. Keep thinking positive !

ReplyDeleteHow exciting! One of the eagles is sitting, keeping vigil on a branch to our left. Nice blue sky, winds are quiet.....cackling crows off in the distance! Hopeful signs of spring...and a mating attempt?!?!?!? Yippee! Did anyone capture that on video?
On of our eagles has spent quite a bit of time on the branches around the nest. A few minutes ago,it left the adjacent branch, flew out of camera range, then into the branches at the very top center of the LIVE screen. If I hadn't seen it land there, I'd not be able to pick it out! Occasional screeching heard, but thank goodness, I don't hear any of those pesky ravens or crows. No construction sounds today either!

Two eagles sitting together on the branch just right of the nest. 8:05 this morning. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteIs everyone having the same problem I am with Cam 2? The video and sound are constantly starting and stopping.

ReplyDeleteThere's an Eagle sitting in the nest and another on a branch above. What a great sight.

Checked in at 4:45 pm, both eagles at the nest, Mom is in the nest, hopefully they will start a family soon! The eaglets in MD are a couple of wks. old a growing like a week.
ReplyDeleteHow about growing like a weed, typing too fast, on well.
ReplyDelete3-17 6:25 pm Checked in about 20 min. ago again. Both eagles on a limb, female (?) kept going back and forth from the nest to be limb. then a LOT of squawking between the 2 of them. Quiet for a few min., then the female (?) flew off. I first checked in at 4:45, then again at 6:05, if they stayed there the whole time, that MUST be a good sign.

ReplyDeleteIt's very windy but there is an Eagle sitting in the nest bowl. The microphone keeps cutting out and the camera just quit. Engle Cam I is also acting up but there are Eagles on that nest also.

ReplyDeleteHave been checking in several times during the day for the last 2 days. Every time I've checked in there, there is either 1 or 2 eagles on a limb or in the nest. This must be a good sign. I watched them having dinner last night in the nest. Keep your fingers crossed.
Are those immature eagles visiting?
ReplyDeletea lot of eagles in nest today 3/20 8:26 i saw 4 eagles
ReplyDeleteI think I saw as many as three imature eagles plus our two adults near the nest this morning. It was diffcult to tell for sure because the live camera kept cutting in and out on me, but I think there were three juveniles at 8:30 am eagle time.

ReplyDeleteOne Eagle on the nest. The wind is really howling.
Checked in about 1:00, eagle in nest, she didn't leave the nest until 2:27, no egg, but, from what I have read, that is a good sign, both eagles were at the nest this morning.
ReplyDeleteBoth eagles in the nest at 6:15 this evening. One stayed only briefly.
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to see the overhead camera (looking into the nest) as a live feed? I'm only able to see the still shots of this angle. Am I missing a link somewhere? Love the new night vision technology. Thanks.
ReplyDelete3-27-09 3:34 pm.
ReplyDeleteCan someone tell what they think is in the nest? The eagles are eating a rather large animal. I got out a magnifer, and it looks like some kind of small dog or something. You can see the leg, nose, and head.

ReplyDeleteIs it possible that we have an egg? Female has been sitting in about the same position for quite sometime now. Occasionally gets up and moves around a little. Keep our fingers crossed.
03/31 @ 17:05
ReplyDeleteSigned on a few minutes ago and found an eagle in the nest. Is this practice incubation or might we have an egg? Sounds as though she(?) has been there a while.
I will keep watching and hoping!

ReplyDeleteI just signed on and the eagle is still on the nest. It looks like he or she is standing on the rim and there might be a second one in the bowl - it's hard to see. Yes, I see two white heads one in the nest and one on the edge.

ReplyDeleteWhat a time for a camera glitch!
Still of nest stuck at 17:03; live video blurry with still at 04:02.
17:37 - That said ... we have one eagle out on a limb (literally!) and possibly one still in the nest ... hard to be certain.
03/31 @ 17:58
ReplyDelete17:50 - 1 out on a limb; 1 on nest edge.
17:51 - back into nest bowl but not down.
17:52 - down in nest again while other remains on limb.
Still of nest advanced to 17:44. Live still remains unchanged at 04:02pm.
Either we have another round of practice incubation or an egg is here/due. Overnight will tell. Hopefully, the still cam will catch the nest with possibility for an egg check.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful site on the live cam, the Dad up on the limb watching over Mom. That is a silhouette to remember ! !
10:40 pm - Eagles still in the nest - good sign
ReplyDelete03/31 @ 22:10
ReplyDeleteI believe there is a strong possibility that she is actually incubating an egg! Her behavior earlier was not as relaxed as she seems to be now ... head tucked and getting some sleep.
I cannot remember if eagles must wait a little while for the egg shell to harden before actually incubating. That might explain some of the sitting upright type posture we saw earlier. She has been up and concentrating on the nest bowl (not positive enough motion observed to be egg turning) and she has settled down with a slight motherly shimmy often seen during incubation.
Wishful thinking just might be a reality with the light of dawn ...

Eagle in the nest bowl this morning.
Still very dark outside but because of the night vision camera, can see the eagle.

ReplyDeleteWE HAVE AN EGG ! ! ! YIPEEEE. This is SO exciting. Turned off the video cam at 10:00 and she was still in the nest, had a good feeling that this was a good sign. Now, according to what I have read, if she is going to lay another egg it will be in the next 24 hrs.
Yes she has 2 eggs. She got up at 7:41 to rotate them.
